FAQs

How do I choose my writer?

Please look at and read samples of our writers on the site, if you feel one particularly resonates with you (or the person you are commissioning a Living Obit for) then this is probably the one to go for.

Can I get help with choosing my writer?

Yes of course, if you're not sure get in touch with us and one of our team will get to know you (or the person you are commissioning a Living Obit for) and after a quick chat and a few emails we will then advise accordingly.

How long does the process take?

Typically the collection of information on you (or the person you are commissioning a Living Obit for) will take approximately two one hour telephone/skype interviews. These may be followed up with a few clarification/further details emails. Once completed, you should see a first draft within a week to ten days (depending on writers workload at time of commission). Then, depending on amendments and edits, you should receive the final Living Obit a week later.

Can the interviews take place in person?

This may be possible depending on your willingness to travel to a place of convenience to the writer, but is not guaranteed. Most writers are used to conducting their thorough interviews by telephone or Skype. With certain writers it may be possible to arrange for them to visit you but this would incur additional costs based on time and location.

What if I’m not happy with my Living Obit?

You will have chosen your writer by your appreciation of their particular style of writing and then given them the information you want them to work with – when you receive the first draft, hopefully you will be thrilled with the results. However, we appreciate this is a creative and collaborative process which is why we build in two rounds of edits and corrections to ensure that you are totally happy with the finished result.

How will my Living Obit be supplied?

Once complete, your (or the person you are commissioning a Living Obit for) Living Obit will be designed and typeset by our designer in the Living Obit style. You will receive a beautiful print of this (delivered in a protective tube) on Archival Paper and your Living Obit will be uploaded to our exclusive online gallery of eclectic and worldly characters.

Can I request for the Living Obit NOT to be included in the online gallery?

Yes of course

Who owns the copyright of the final written material?

Once FULLY paid for you will own the material in full
